As herbicide resistance continues to challenge Wisconsin’s crop production, the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension and the WiscWeeds team are hosting the 2026 Wisconsin Extension Weed Management Workshop on Sept. 2, 2026 at the Arlington Agricultural Research Station.
This year’s event, themed “From Basics to Breakthroughs: Managing Weeds in a Resistant Era,” will provide farmers, agronomists, and agricultural consultants with the latest science-based strategies for herbicide-resistant weed management to protect yields and improve profitability.
The full-day workshop offers a deep dive into the evolving landscape of weed control, combining classroom-style learning with hands-on field demonstrations.

“Effective weed management is no longer just about choosing the right jug; it’s about integrated strategies and precise applications,” says Dr. Rodrigo Werle, UW-Madison Extension weed scientist and associate professor of agronomy.
“This year’s workshop is designed to revisit the basics and bridge the gap between current everyday best practices for weed control and the latest breakthroughs in resistance management research that will define the next decade of Wisconsin agriculture.”
Keynote speakers include Dr. Patrick Tranel, University of Illinois professor of crop science, and Greg Dahl, CPDA director of adjuvant education and former WSSA and NCWSS president.
Farmers, agricultural service providers, certified crop advisors (CCAs), educators, students, and all others interested in managing herbicide-resistant weeds are welcome. Continuing education units (CEUs) for pest management will be available for CCAs.
