Dr. Harkirat Kaur, assistant professor in the UW–Madison Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences and extension specialist in corn agronomy, is committed to keeping farmers and consultants at the forefront of her research priorities. Dr. Kaur’s lab, Badger Corn Agronomy, recently released the 2024 Wisconsin Corn Hybrid Performance Trials and a survey to shape future research directions based on farmer and consultant needs.
2024 Wisconsin Corn Hybrid Trials Available
Corn agronomy at the Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences, UW—Madison marked the 52nd year of successful corn hybrid performance evaluation trials. Hybrid performance evaluation is critical to hybrid selection which is an important decision made by the growers. It is also crucial for delivering new technologies, pest resistance and increased yield benefit and profitability. The purpose of these trials is to provide unbiased performance comparisons of hybrid seed corn for grain and silage available in Wisconsin.
In 2024, grain and silage performance trials were planted at 12 locations in four production zones: the southern, south central, north central, and northern zones. Read more and find data here.
Corn Management Survey for Wisconsin
Dr. Kaur asking for farmers’ and crop consultants’ assistance in shaping future research directions, lab priorities, and extension work.
Please take the Corn Management Survey for Wisconsin to help inform Dr. Kaur about what farmers and consultants see as current challenges and future interests. She hopes to identify knowledge and research gaps to ensure farmers and consultants have access to the research they need to make real-life decisions.
Dr. Kaur is looking to bridge the gaps between researchers, Extension staff, and farmers to deliver meaningful research that results in financially and environmentally sustainable corn production.
