The University of Wisconsin-Madison A2809 Nutrient Application Guidelines for Field, Vegetable, and Fruit Crop publication provides recommendations for managing nutrients on Wisconsin farms. This publication is now being updated into an online publication to allow for timely updates and to allow users to quickly reference the information needed.
Over the past year, users have provided feedback regarding what needs updating in the publication, discussions are occurring regarding recommendations that need further discussion and analysis, and the publication contents are being organized by crop rather than by nutrient.
Once content of the current A2809 (2012 version) is uploaded into the online publication, a process set to be complete later this summer, users can expect future progress to include updates to the maximum return to nitrogen (MRTN) philosophy for corn nitrogen rates and a new approach for defining soil groups and soil yield potential using data from the USDA-NRCS database.
The publication data will continue to be updated in the next several years for phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, and manure recommendations.
The updated guidelines provided in A2809 will be incorporated into SnapPlus and the Wisconsin routine farm soil test computer software, software used by WI DATCP certified soil testing laboratories to generate nutrient and lime recommendations. View the online publication here.
