The University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension is pleased to announce Jason Cavadini as the new Grazing Outreach Specialist. The Grazing Outreach Specialist position is a new and exciting addition to the Agriculture Institute, Crops and Soils Program. Jason will work to establish partnerships throughout Wisconsin and identify the needs and gaps in resources. Jason’s work will add value to that of partner organizations through collaboration to develop and deliver educational programs that serve Wisconsin’s grazers.
Interest in managed grazing is increasing in Wisconsin’s livestock agriculture systems as its environmental and economic benefits become more widely recognized. Well-managed grazing helps to build healthy soil, protect our resources and maintain a high level of production while requiring minimal off-farm inputs. Jason’s role is to bolster the research, resources, and programming needed to help farms of all scales successfully implement grazing in Wisconsin and beyond.
Jason Cavadini is a Certified Professional Agronomist and previously spent 9 years as the Assistant Superintendent of the Marshfield Agricultural Research Station. He grew up on his family’s farm in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin where he developed a passion for soil and water conservation. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Soil Science from UW-River Falls, and a Master’s in Agronomy from Purdue University. Jason also owns and operates a direct-market grass-fed beef farm near Stratford with his wife, Jocelyn, and their five children.
As the Grazing Specialist, he manages a research and outreach program focused on advancing the practices of grass-based agriculture and managed-grazing across Wisconsin, with the goal of equipping farmers and consultants with the knowledge and resources necessary for success. He is a founder and advisor of the Eau Pleine Partnership for Integrated Conservation.
